Motocross Training Journal for Dirt Bike Riders

Motocross training journal cover with rider silhouette.

The Tool You Still Need.

Train. Track. Improve. Win.

Stop guessing what worked. Start tracking it.

The Nelmgerian MX Training Journal is a structured motocross training and race journal designed to help riders develop race craft, discipline, consistency, and confidence on and off the bike.

Whether you're preparing for your first race or working toward a full motocross season, the journal gives you one place to set goals, organize training, document practice days, record race results, track bike settings, and look back at your progress.

TRAIN SMART. TRACK EVERYTHING. LEARN FROM EVERY RIDE.

More Than a Motocross Notebook

Getting faster isn't only about riding more.

It's about learning from your riding.

The Nelmgerian MX Training Journal was designed to give motocross riders a structured system for recording the information that matters throughout training and race season.

Instead of relying on memory, riders can document their goals, training sessions, track conditions, bike setup, results, and observations.

Over time, those entries create a reference that can help a rider recognize patterns, see improvements, and identify areas that still need attention.

That's the idea behind the journal:

Train. Track. Improve. Win.

The journal's introductory section specifically encourages riders to record training days and workouts, practice and qualifying results, moto finishes, overall results, lessons learned, bike settings, track conditions, dirt type, weather, and surface changes.

Set Your Motocross Goals Before the Season Starts

A better season starts with knowing what you're working toward.

The Training Journal begins with a dedicated Goals — Before Race Season section.

Riders can set separate goals for:

On-Bike Goals

Focus on the things you want to accomplish on the motorcycle.

Off-Bike Goals

Identify the fitness, strength, preparation, discipline, or other areas you want to work on away from the track.

At the end of preseason training, the journal brings you back to those goals with a dedicated:

Did You Accomplish Your Goals?

section so you can evaluate your progress before moving into race season.

A Suggested Weekly Motocross Training Structure

Not sure how to organize a training week?

The journal includes a suggested weekly structure built around:

3 Training Days | 2 Active Recovery Days | 1 Rest Day

Day 1 — Bike Skill & Starts

The journal's first training day focuses on technique, explosiveness, and control.

Suggested work includes:

  • Dynamic warm-up
  • Lower-body mobility
  • 10–15 gate or dirt starts
  • Corner drills
  • Braking drills
  • A focused skill session

At the end, riders identify one skill to improve on the next ride.

Day 2 — Strength & Mobility

Motocross requires more than bike time.

Day 2 focuses on building strength without unnecessary bulk while paying attention to energy level, weak areas, and recovery quality.

The journal provides a suggested 45–60 minute workout including exercises such as squats or goblet squats, deadlifts or kettlebell swings, pull-ups or lat pulldowns, push-ups or bench, and plank holds.

Day 3 — Bike Endurance & Consistency

Day 3 brings the focus back to the motorcycle.

The goal:

Ride Smooth While Tired.

The journal suggests 3–5 motos at 70–80% effort while concentrating on:

  • Smooth throttle
  • Clean lines
  • Breathing
  • Lap consistency
  • Fatigue points
  • Mistakes under fatigue

The key rule printed in the journal is simple:

Consistency > Speed

Create Your Own Motocross Training Program

Every rider is different.

That's why the suggested training structure isn't meant to be the only way to use the journal.

A dedicated Create Your Own section lets riders develop a training routine based on their own goals, schedule, riding level, strengths, and areas needing improvement.

Use the provided program as a starting point—or build a system that works for you.

Track Every Practice Day

One of the biggest features of the Nelmgerian MX Training Journal is the detailed Practice Day tracking system.

Instead of simply writing:

"Had a good practice today."

you can record the details that could explain why the bike or rider performed differently.

Track Conditions

Record:

  • Date
  • Weather
  • Track
  • Dirt type
  • Wet or dry track conditions

That information gives context to everything else that happened during the ride.

Record Your Motocross Bike Settings

Bike setup can change how a motorcycle feels from one track—or even one session—to another.

The Practice Day pages provide dedicated spaces for recording:

  • Front sprocket
  • Rear sprocket
  • Front suspension compression clicks
  • Front suspension rebound clicks
  • Rear suspension compression clicks
  • Rear suspension rebound clicks
  • Sag
  • Fork height
  • Front tire and PSI
  • Rear tire and PSI

That turns the journal into more than a riding diary.

It becomes a motocross bike setup reference you can look back on when returning to similar tracks and conditions.

Record Your Practice Results

The journal also gives riders space to record:

Qualifying / Practice

Moto 1

Moto 2

Overall

Then use the accompanying Notes page to record what happened, what you learned, changes you made, problems you encountered, or anything you want to remember before returning to the track.

Take Your Training Into Race Season

Once preseason preparation is complete, the journal transitions into a dedicated:

GOALS — RACE SEASON

section.

Just like preseason, riders can establish separate:

On-Bike Goals

and

Off-Bike Goals

for the racing season.

This creates a simple progression:

Set preseason goals → Train → Evaluate → Set race-season goals → Race → Evaluate again.

Dedicated Motocross Race Day Logs

Race days deserve more than just writing down your finishing position.

The Race Day pages let you record the conditions and bike setup surrounding each race.

Race Information

Record:

  • Date
  • Weather
  • Track
  • Dirt type
  • Wet or dry track conditions

Bike Settings

Record:

  • Front sprocket
  • Rear sprocket
  • Front suspension compression
  • Front suspension rebound
  • Rear suspension compression
  • Rear suspension rebound
  • Front tire PSI
  • Rear tire PSI

Race Results

Record:

  • Qualifying / Practice
  • Moto 1
  • Moto 2
  • Overall

Then use the Notes section to document what happened during the event and what you want to remember going forward.

Remember the Ride — Not Just the Results

One of the coolest features of the Nelmgerian MX Training Journal is something you won't find in a typical notebook.

Add Your Own Motocross Photos.

Throughout the journal are dedicated Attach Photos pages designed for printed 4×6 photos from practice or race day.

Each page provides space for:

Photo 1 — 4×6

Photo 2 — 4×6

and additional notes.

That means your journal can eventually become more than training data.

It can become a physical record of your motocross season—the tracks you rode, races you entered, bikes you raced, and memories you made along the way.

See How Far You've Come

At the end of race season, return to the goals you wrote down earlier.

The journal concludes the tracking process with:

Did You Accomplish Your Goals? — Race Season

Review your:

On-Bike Goals

and

Off-Bike Goals

and write down how you progressed.

Sometimes progress isn't a trophy.

It might be better starts.

More consistent motos.

Improved fitness.

Better bike setup.

Fewer mistakes.

More confidence.

Or simply becoming a smarter rider than you were when the season started.

The journal's final message reinforces its purpose: helping riders train with intention, track what matters, build race craft through preparation and consistency, and reflect on each practice, race, and season.

Who Is the Nelmgerian MX Training Journal For?

The Nelmgerian MX Training Journal is designed for motocross riders who want more structure around their riding and racing.

It can be used by:

  • Youth motocross racers
  • Amateur motocross riders
  • Beginner racers
  • Experienced riders
  • Motocross parents and their young riders
  • Riders working with trainers or coaches
  • Racers preparing for an upcoming season
  • Riders wanting to document bike setup
  • Riders wanting to improve consistency
  • Dirt bike riders who want to take training more seriously

You don't have to be a professional racer to train with purpose.

A Great Gift for a Motocross Racer

Looking for a useful gift for someone who lives for dirt bikes?

The Nelmgerian MX Training Journal makes a practical motocross gift for:

Birthdays • Christmas • First Race • New Dirt Bike • Race Season • Training Camps • Motocross Students

Instead of another motocross accessory, give a rider something they can use throughout their season.

Build Your Own Motocross History

A year from now, today's practice might be hard to remember.

Five years from now, it may be nearly impossible.

But imagine opening an old Training Journal and seeing:

The track you raced.

The weather that day.

Your bike setup.

Your gearing.

Your suspension settings.

Your tire pressures.

Your Moto 1 and Moto 2 results.

Your handwritten notes.

And two actual photographs from the event.

That's when a training journal becomes something more.

It becomes part of your motocross story.

Start Your Training Journal

Every practice teaches you something.

Every race gives you information.

Every setup change tells you something about your motorcycle.

Write it down. Learn from it. Use it the next time you ride.
